Yes, it is cold outside here in Luxembourg. Extremely cold for mid-October (it’s 9 degrees Celsius, if you need to know). And I was not equipped, because my favourite montgomery was lost in the moves and my other favourite retro winter vest is back in Greece.
How can a girl in a cold country save herself from freezing to death? Well, she has to try online vintage shopping! There’s not much of a choice in and around Luxembourg, when it comes to vintage and second-hand style. We do have a few thrift shops, but they are nothing like the NY ones, or the charity shops in the UK full of great finds. It’s rather boring here and rather expensive. And as for the ethical choice, there is hardly any. We are happy to have a brand new shop that stocks sustainable fashion, the Akabobuttek part of the fashion bus project, the Akabobus, but it’s the one and only. And I do like variety, even if the paradox of choice makes things harder.
So, the power of Etsy was here to save me this time. After browsing hundreds of items, handmade, ethical or vintage from the States, from France, from China or from the Balkans, I found my perfect winter jacket (as seen in the picture) at an amazing vintage shop located just around the corner, in Paris, oh la la! It’s called Francette Vintage and stocks items for guys and girls and at what I believe to be reasonable prices.
My new hottie is a vintage Pendleton Coat with a beautiful brown gingham pattern, it’s fully lined, seriously oversized (and I love it), Made in France and has the Woolmark that certifies that it’s made from 100% wool. And, weirdly enough, it’s in excellent condition! Big thanks to the shop owner for shipping it the fastest possible for me 🙂
Have you ever tried vintage shopping? Do you like thrifting? I’m curious to hear your experience!
